Scarpello and Co Craft Bakery
The Scarpello & Co. is not just a Speciality Food company. We are an every-day food company that was born of a passion and obsession with Real Food. It is the culmination of generations of experience and dedication to carefully sourcing the very best ingredients available, foods of high quality, made with a dedication and integrity abundantly evident in the final product.
Many of our products are of limited availability, from small Artisan Producers and would otherwise not be available to us were it not for this passion and determination to locate and pursue only authentic products of the very highest quality, products that we feel will compliment the Scarpello & Co. range.
- Members of the Real Bread Campaign & Real Bread Ireland
- award winning Sourdough – Blas na hEireann 2014 – Best in Farmers Market.

The way Kemal Scarpello handles a piece of dough? It’s basically indecent. Think of the way a cat toys with a mouse – dominating, deferring: dominating, deferring, always in control, always extracting the maximum juice from the jape – and that’s Mr Scarpello working with his doughs, as he tosses and turns and teases the nascent breads, in the capacious kitchen of the Slow Food Co, at the rear of Portlough House, between Killea and Newtowncunningham.

Wood Fired Pizza
Scarpello & Co has a unique identity. An identity which is fuelled by an ideology such as that of the many dedicated food artisans all over the world. This is a passion for doing things correctly, with care and simplicity. A respect for the best ingredients, using time honoured ancient methods. As a Wood-Fired, Italian inspired bakery, we couldn’t operate without considering Wood-Fired pizza. Pizza is now a worldwide phenomena stretching far back to its original birthplace in Naples, Italy. Over the decades, much of its true identity has been lost to the mass-produced junk, fast food and often a frozen supermarket product. In the ever increasing battle to compete with supermarkets, fast food chains often create pizzas using cheap, mass produced ingredients on soft doughy bases which might arrive to them frozen or pre-baked.

His signature is a restraint, a lightness of touch, like a cat’s paw teasing and testing, the textures and tastes of the breads and pizzas floating like a butterfly, and then the flavour stinging like a bee. Gotcha!John McKenna
